The drive to Nauvoo took us on a little highway that ran right next to the Mississippi River...literally feet from it. So, we decided to go touch the river! We went down to the water's edge and found that it was frozen solid enough for us to walk on. The river was almost completely frozen over, and we could imagine covered wagons crossing it in the winter!
